2023 Mayoral By-election

MAYORAL BY-ELECTION, WARD 13

ENDORSEMENTS

Over the past few weeks, leading candidates have been asked about local support in our area.  They've recommended people to give them an endorsement.  Here are the comments from the people who replied.

Barbara Hall & Max Beck about Ana Bailao

“Ana Bailao is best prepared to be the next Mayor of Toronto. We have known Ana for twenty years as a smart, hardworking, pragmatic leader…As city Councillor and deputy mayor, she has been a consensus builder who makes things happen.  She has been a tough negotiator with the provincial and federal governments. Ana is passionate about building affordable housing… She will lead collaborative processes to make our city safer and healthier for all of us. Ana already has support from seven members of council. Frankly, we believe that Ana is the only candidate who, as mayor, would be able to pull council together to work effectively and to take decisive action…” (Photo: anabailao.ca)

Kristyn Wong-Tam about Olivia Chow

On April 19, Ms Wong-Tam told Hannah Jackson at Global News that her “high-level energy and ability to solve complex problems are legendary to the communities she has served. She will make an exceptional mayor for our exceptional Toronto. Just watch her.” And she told CBC News, “Olivia Chow was leading the way for many, many years, and she's never stopped giving. She's never stopped contributing. She's always been here for each and every single one of us, whether her hand was visible or invisible…” (Photo: Twitter)

Walied Khogali Ali about Josh Matlow

Walied Khogali Ali is a progressive community leader and activist who works in Moss Park and Regent Park.  He’s actively supporting Josh Matlow because he’s hardworking, progressive and focused on Toronto’s communities.  Josh has “reached out to communities across Toronto to ensure that he’s got a people’s platform ... he’s visited every Ward.” He’s very progressive, “He’ll invest $300 million for housing controlled by City agencies.” And “$150 million for youth hubs, mobile crisis response teams and a shelter system.” He has a social development plan for Moss Park and for Regent Park.  And Walied sees Matlow as “practical, he’s costed his ideas” and he has “evidence-based solutions.” (Photo: CP24)
